Charity begins at home and for us, this covers hundreds of places across the North and Scotland. We're proud to be a good neighbour and provide support to the communities we serve - it's an essential to achieving our mission to take the North further.
This support comes in many shapes and sizes; from working with local charities to sourcing locally produced food to serve on-board and investing in regeneration around stations.
We love raising money for a wide variety of causes and have been involved in everything from bake sales at our stations to entering teams in the Three Peaks Challenge, Great North Run and Manchester 10k. Since April 2016, our staff have raised over £26,000, and we’ve got lots more events planned.
Each year, TransPennine Express invites applications from community groups and charities to its Transform Grants Fund, with £50,000 available to support projects which tackle youth unemployment, promote social inclusion and improve the environment.
This year, TransPennine Express received 114 applications for our Transform Grants funding, requesting in excess of £450,000.
Following our community vote, we’re pleased to announce the winners for 2018/19.

We welcome charities to come to our stations, promote their causes and carry out collections. If you would like to host a charity collection day at one of our stations, please get in touch.
We support a wide range of local charities by offering tickets, which can be raffled to raise funds. If you would like more information about how our ticket donations could support your charity, please get in touch.
We provide free travel to a number of groups as part of a supported journeys initiative, in conjunction with the British Transport Police. This helps customers with dementia travel on our trains and gain confidence using public transport. So far this year we’ve had wonderful days out to the seaside by train for over 50 elderly people.
We work with local schools to provide careers advice, mock interviews and rail safety days, and work with charities to lend a helping hand where they need it most. Find out more about our plans to develop volunteering opportunities at TransPennine Express.
If you have a project you'd like us to get involved with, please get in touch.
That’s right, you can experience the thrill of driving one of our Class 185 simulators at one of our depots. The experience is available for up to 6 people (over 18s only, sorry kids!) at York or Ardwick depot and costs £130 per group.
All of the money raised from these experience days is donated to The National Railway Museum and Railway Benefit Fund. Fancy giving it a try? Get in touch.
We support a number of Community Rail Partnerships that help deliver investment and contribute to providing sustainable growth in communities along their routes. We work with community groups to provide low rental on property we manage and are working on schemes to make better use of empty property, and we’ll soon be bringing more spaces on our stations back into use to support further community activity.
