Due to social distancing measures there will be space for no more than half the usual number of passengers on the railway. Therefore we recommend planning ahead and travelling off peak where possible - otherwise we can't guarantee you'll be able to board.
Face coverings MUST be worn when using public transport and when in and around the station as transport hubs are included in the same requirements as retail outlets. Should part of your journey require the use of a rail replacement bus or coach, you are reminded that face coverings should continue to be worn throughout your journey.
Please be considerate of others, hidden disabilities or medical conditions may mean that not everyone can wear a face covering. There are some exemptions including babies, children under 11 years old, people with disabilities and those with breathing difficulties. Anyone who isn't wearing a face covering and isn't exempt could receive a maximum fine of £3,200 fine from the British Transport Police.
The sunflower lanyard can be worn by customers who may have a hidden disability and are not able to wear a face mask. Sunflower lanyards can be collected from any TPE ticket office.
Please check your journey before you travel. A reduced frequency timetable remains in operation across the TransPennine Express network, so please check your journey as your usual service may not be available.
Please buy your ticket before you travel either through our app or on our website. By selecting the e-ticketing option, your tickets will be delivered straight to your mobile app for free, so you will need the TPExpress app to use your tickets.
Season tickets for your Smart card are also available to buy online before you travel. Just upload the ticket to your Smart card at a TransPennine Express ticket machine in the station or automatically as you pass through the ticket gates.
Our ticket offices in stations our open where you can purchase tickets if you are unable to buy online or use the ticket vending machines. Contactless payments are accepted at the ticket office. We are still able to take cash payment if you have no alternative, but contactless is recommended.
Please note we are not currently offering seat reservations on our services but you should still travel on your booked time train if you have an Advance Purchase ticket. Customers may see their tickets marked with *** where they would normally see a carriage letter and seat number.
If you would like to travel in First Class, please note that we are not operating an on-board catering service and the number of seats in our First Class area is currently limited. On our Nova trains, customers are politely requested to not occupy seats in the First Class area that is clearly marked for staff use only.
